We were approached to create a VIP suite at Kildare Village while the designer shopping outlet was being extended last year. From an empty concrete shell, we designed a reception, entertainment space for events, as well as dressing rooms and restrooms. The brief was to create an atmosphere with a distinctly Irish tone. We interpreted this by taking the concept of a traditional Irish country house and using key elements in a smart, colourful way. This meant detailed panelling, natural fabrics such as linen, antique furniture and a deep colour palette.
The reception space has Irish oval crystal mirrors set against dark blue walls and curtains with gothic patterned fabric. The entertainment space was defined by a circular seating area at one end, complete with specially designed curved sofas, and a curved banquette at the other end of the room. The wallpaper around the banquette has a chinoiserie theme in reference to the nearby Japanese Gardens of Kildare.
A second banquette seating area is covered in tartan, with green hemp wall covering above, and blackened timber chairs with wicker seats. To avoid the room looking twee, we included elements such as contemporary blue lamps and red leather side tables.
