Copper Extension

copper extension

This was one of the last projects John completed while still at deBlacam & Meagher Architects. The brief was to refurbish the lower ground floor of an 1860s redbrick house to create a more family friendly living space. A bay window was added to the rear creating a dining alcove and reflecting daylight into the kitchen. This new bay leads out to a dining terrace with built-in gas barbeque. The side passage was roofed to create a wind lobby with storage space and cloakroom. New openings were made with pocket doors between rooms to make a more open plan space. The same pale yellow brick was used on the walls of the extension and the floor of the side passage while detailing is in copper with grey steel doors. The improvements, while distinctive and clearly legible, are intended to be timeless.
